Ongoing History Daily: The story of the (What's the Story) Morning Glory artwork

When it came time to shoot the album cover artwork for the second Oasis album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory, the band again hired photographer Brian Cannon. His concept was to have two men walking past each other at close range and experiencing some kind of tense moment.

The original idea was for those guys to be Liam and Noel, but the night before the photo session, they went drinking and were still far too drunk to participate, especially since the picture was taken at about 5:00 on a Sunday morning on Berwick Street in Soho. This explains why there are no vehicles or other pedestrians on the street.

The two men are Cannon himself (he has his back to the camera), while the other guy is London DJ Sean Rowley. If you look in the background, you’ll see Owen Morris, the producer of the album, holding the box containing the master tape for the record in front of his face.
